It was supposed to be a three hour drive, but it took us about 4 hours to get to French Lick after leaving our reception.
The hotel was beautiful. We had to figure out novel luxuries such as valet parking and bellhops, but we managed. 🙂 Since it was late and it had been a long day, we left exploring the hotel to the next day.
The first full day at French Lick, after breakfast at the Grand Colonnade, we went over to West Baden and explored that hotel and its grounds. We were both pretty worn out from the wedding, and all the preparation that had gone into it, so we took our time looking around, and took advantage of any chance to stop and sit for awhile.
We had a late lunch at the Power Plant Bar and Grille, and then walked over to historic French Lick to look around. After a very short tour, we decided we were too tired to walk around anymore, so we stopped at a nearby Redbox and rented a movie, and enjoyed a lazy evening.
The second day, we got up fairly early and went on a six-mile hike at a nearby park. It had started to sprinkle on the way to the park, but fortunately stopped by the time we were ready to get out and walk, and it stayed dry the entire time. The hike was enjoyable until the very end. We decided to walk on the road to take a tiny shortcut to get back to our car, since it was late and we were starving. What we didn’t realize, was that just beyond the bend in the road, were two massively steep hills. But we made it!
We headed back to the hotel, quickly showered and got ready, then went to eat at a nearby golf course clubhouse. A veggie quesadilla had never tasted so delicious. That evening we strolled around French Lick’s grounds, and had only a small ice cream for dinner because we were still full from our late lunch.
The next morning was our last morning at the resort. We decided to take advantage of the room service. It was a rainy gray morning, so we took our time in packing up. We went around some of the shops inside of French Lick Resort, and bought a few souvenirs, and tried these two lovely chocolates. (Raspberry and maple nut.) Then it was time to checkout, and head home!
