Why Dinner of Herbs?

Why is the name of my blog “Dinner of Herbs”?

Don’t worry.  I’m not going to make a dinner out of only herbs.  I chose the name because I rather liked this verse:

“Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a fattened ox and hatred with it.” {Proverbs 15:17}

I appreciated the reminder that while food is undeniably enjoyable, if you share it with good friends or family members, it is even more enjoyable.  I love food, but I love feeding people even more.  {I also like to sneak healthier-than-expected dishes into the meal.}

I plan on using this blog to post recipes that I love and ones that I have modified to be healthier.  I tend to use only the most common ingredients; I do not have the money to buy specialty items at this time.  I will also occasionally post recipes that I tested and were total disasters.  Sometimes I will post recipes that I am currently working on but are not perfected yet.  If anyone would like to make suggestions or submit a recipe that they would like to be healthified (is that a word?  It should be.), then I will gladly try it as soon as possible!

  1. Thanks for coming by my blog! I’m glad you found me because I am def. interested in your blog! I’m always a little all over the place in trying to eat better, healthier, cleaner – and I could use all the help I can get!

    Love your choice of books – I’m an English teacher, so I concur!!

    Good luck with your studies – sounds very demanding!!!

  2. Thanks for stopping by to visit my blog! I love the inspiration for your blog title. Very thoughtful. You have some great dishes here! With great commentary. I’ll be visiting often for more ideas on what to serve my family. Fantastic as well that you are blogging
    while finishing your pharmacy training!!

  3. ah! love it! I have my fair share of documented disasters on my blog as well. Really love yours! It’s amazing the amount of recipes you have managed to put together as busy as you must be all the time. Incredible. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Disasters are inevitable, but luckily they are pretty entertaining in retrospect. And yes, I do keep pretty busy, but I enjoy cooking (and documenting it) so I manage to make time for it. Thanks, I am glad you like the blog!

  5. I like the reason for your blog name, and I’m all in favor of simple ingredients! Sure it’s fun to experiment with specialty items, but we need to appreciate the good quality, simple things–even if money were no object–like some perfectly ripe berries, or a tomato!

  6. Thank you for liking my post yesterday. You sound like a very grounded and interesting person. It’s nice to know others are working for a healthier life style for other too.
